School is approaching or maybe it has started already. So how do you keep your kid or yourself fueled up for learning and sports? I am going to try and keep this short and to the point: protein, fiber, veggies, and water. If your kid eats healthy, meaning not many processed foods or sugary foods/drinks, then they are going to be healthier and stronger. Look at Popeye! O.k. sorry that is way old school...look at Mr. Goodbody! Yes, I know that is still old school. ANYWAY....
Stick with simple food with not a lot of ingredients: whole fruit, dried fruit, nuts, cheese, Daisy Cottage Cheese, natural peanut butter, jam or fruit preserves, eggs, legumes/beans, fresh veggies, high fiber bread...6 g of fiber per slice is ideal (Aunt Millie's 12 Grain), yams, homemade quick bread like zucchini bread, yogurt but read the label, etc. Yeah, it's a lot more work verses buying those quick processed snack bars or sugary fruit snacks, but your kid will be healthier, stronger, thinner, and more alert.
Oh yeah, water. Use a straw if you have to, crushed ice, a cool water bottle. If you buy the bottles water please recycle the bottles....you will save money every month on your trash bill!
